From The Principal 9/17/2023

Thanks to generous donations from our alumni, SHS is adding a prayer space and outdoor learning center.

The cement in the front of the school is the first step of the process. We will be adding fresh landscaping and returning the memorial monuments, as well as adding some new ones. It will be exciting to see this space be used to learn and grow while preserving the history of Sacred Heart School.

We want to extend a special thank you to Bill Mullaly for his donation to repair and resurface the front steps of the school. It is so nice to see the students use the new steps at dismissal and when we pray the Rosary for a funeral at the church. Thank you!

We are off to a wonderful start of the year!

The month of September is full of events that teach and inspire us all to move closer to Christ. Friday Mass, Classroom Visits with Father Todd and James (Seminarian), and Morning Prayer are a special time when we can embrace our faith and grow in love and knowledge. We begin each school day in morning prayer, sharing our faith with every student from Preschool to 6th grade.

This week, the students are learning what it means to be human: to have a body and a soul. The human being is described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church as created in God’s image-a male or female- and as one person with both body and soul. We are not angels, with a soul and no body; nor are we animals, with a body and no soul. We are a combination of both. We use our mind and our soul to think and to love. The students know that each of them can choose to use this knowledge and love to bring them closer to God or alternatively, be tempted to fall for the “wickedness and snares of the devil.” As humans, we will do both. This leads our lessons to virtue and why virtue will lead us to Heaven. The world can be a big scary place, but our Catholic Faith gives each of us everything we need to be happy, joyful disciples of Christ. God is good and we are having the best time learning all about Him!

God Bless,

Anne Atkin
