We are getting closer to the roll out of the Diocesan Capital campaign for Catholic Education, Stewardship for Saints and Scholars. A few years ago, the Witness to Hope campaign helped all of our parishes accomplish many projects. (When I came here both of our parishes were in the midst of those projects.) This aims to do the same for our schools. I wanted to speak to why I personally support this campaign.
I was blessed to attend the Catholic School at Most Holy Trinity Parish in my hometown of Fowler. It was during those school years, particularly in being able to serve Mass, that I experienced the calling to the priesthood. I know the Lord can and does work in many environments but the school helped provide a fertile ground for those seeds to take root.
This historic campaign focuses on building a strong foundation for Catholic Education and Catholic Schools in our Diocese for the generations to come. I know at Sacred Heart we have some families who have been able to go to the school for four generations all due to the foresight and generosity of our founding families. I want to help do my part to ensure that foundation for many more generations to come. I currently have nieces and nephews in two different schools in our Diocese. I want to help make sure that no matter where any of my nieces and nephews end up in our Diocese, they would have access to a Catholic school if it is what they desired. And not just them, but one day their children and their children’s children.
I am so proud of our school at Sacred Heart. But our school, and all the schools of the Diocese, are part of the shared mission of the Church. This campaign is inviting all parishes, both those with and those without a school, to take part in this mission.
Next Saturday, August 10th, we will have our annual Youth Group Hike and Mass at Lost Nations State Game area in Pittsford followed by lunch back at the parish. We will meet up at Sacred Heart at 8am and depart from there. This is always a neat event – we hike to the Sile Doty Cave, celebrate Mass in the clearing outside of it, and then have time to explore. It will be great to have you join us!
God Bless,
Fr. Todd
