Dear Sacred Heart and St. Mary on the Lake,
It was a great joy to be able to bring our 4-6th graders to visit the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, in Ann Arbor. We are pictured here in their beautiful Chapel along with seminarian Jack Jobst and our own parish daughter and Sacred Heart School Alumna, Sr. Frances De Sales Czeiszperger. She along with the other novices and postulants gave us a tour, joined us for lunch, and played a game of Soccer.
Their community is one of the fastest growing in America. These sisters, like all consecrated religious, are a spiritual source of strength for the whole Church through their prayer and service. Last week we had the story of Moses praying for the people of Israel as they defended themselves against a surprise attack. While he remained vigilant in prayer the people were victorious. Bishop Robert Barron has used that story as an analogy for us to understand the important role that religious play in the Church. Like Moses they are vigilant in prayer that gives the rest of the Church the strength we need to continue fighting. Indeed, these sisters through their daily dedication to prayer and their teaching apostolate help us all remain faithful to our own callings in the world. What a blessing to have them in our backyard.
Every year the Sisters host two overnight vocation retreats. This year the two dates are: November 5th – 6th, 2022 and February 11th – 12th, 2023. You are invited to join them on a spiritual retreat that includes Holy Mass, Divine Office, Rosary and the opportunity to enjoy time with the Sisters. You will hear conferences given about Mary and the Eucharist, as well as on the specific theme of the retreat. Please note: Vocational Discernment Retreats are for young women between the ages of 16 (high school juniors) and 33. You can find more information and how to register at the link below: https://www.sistersofmary.org/events/categories/retreats/
We have been continuing to talk about Proposal 3 on the ballot and our efforts to stop it. It is such an important issue that we need to keep on focusing on it. I especially encourage anyone who is waffling, or for friends and family members, to look at the actual 327 words of the proposed amendment, not just the 95-word summary that will be on the ballot. In the Faith Magazine mailed out to homes or available in the Parishes there is a break down of the actual proposed amendment and the effects it will have.
God Bless,
Fr. Todd
