When Bishop Boyea came to Lansing in 2008 there were 94 parishes in the Diocese. By 2021 that number has shrunk to 72. Many people do not attend Mass, populations have shifted, the overall population of our diocese is shrinking and many of our priests are reaching retirement age. For all these reasons and more, it was deemed necessary to be proactive and make sure our resources are deployed in such a way as to best minister to the faithful all across the ten counties of our Diocese. The RRM process is not meant to close churches. It is fostering a spirit of unity so we can all work together for the good of souls and the glory of God.
Please consider joining in the discussions about this important process at Lumen Christi next Sunday evening. Your feedback will be of great value to those who have undertaken this important task at the request of our Bishop.
