CONFIRMATION NEWS

This past fall and winter, the Confirmation Youth have been using their time in hands of service. Their most recent project was feeding the hungry at Share the Warmth. They all had a special role in preparing the dinner and took pride in the fact that they made all the food. We were welcomed and thanked at the shelter and I hope your child will continually use these experiences to “step up” and keep serving for the Lord and for others!

Dates for February Classes: Feb 9 at St. Mary on the Lake (6:30-8 p.m.) and Feb 23 at Sacred Heart school (6:30-8 p.m).

In March we will lead Stations of the Cross at both parishes and receive our Rite of Enrollment.

Please keep these Confirmation Students in your prayers!

“Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman”

On January 24, three of our young parishioners attended the March for Life in Washington D.C. with the Diocese of Lansing bus.  They represented our parishes and represented LIFE. This March was of historical size – over 200,000 attended. They participated in a vigil Mass at the Basilica, several rosaries, and witnessed many great talks from priests, religious and abortion survivors on how important it is for the young generation to stand up for life. We spent the night camping in a gym at Catholic University and walked many steps around DC and the March itself. They also attended a Catholic Youth rally with 18,000 youth from all over the country where Pope Francis gave a message from his Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Christope Pierre, “The Holy Father is close to you, and believes in you, and with his spirit he marches with you.”  This year’s theme was “Life Empowers: Pro-Life is Pro-Woman” to emphasize the power of women and how important it is that they are to be cared for while carrying life. Support your local care pregnancy centers; we currently have the baby bottle drive at both parishes! They can always use donations, diapers and supplies. We are thankful for our parish support and prayers on our pilgrimage for life! It was an amazing experience for all!

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has announced the observance of National Marriage week February 7-14 and World Marriage Day as February 9, 2020. Every year, it is an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with promoting and defending marriage and the family. (from the Committee on Laity, Marriage, Family Life and Youth’s letter to the Bishops 1-15-20).  The theme for this year is Stories from the Domestic Church. In addition to resources available at ForYourMarriage.org and mariageuniqueforareason.org there is a Virtual Retreat for Couples. This retreat offers married couples an opportunity to pray and reflect about marriage in God’s plan. You can sign up for the retreat at https://www.foryourmarriage.org/

40 Days for Life begins on Ash Wednesday FEB 26.  Our hopes are for a greater awareness as to how Prayer Will Save Lives!

Every year with the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade and the March for Life, the issue of abortion is discussed. It is a topic that raises a history of pain for some; for others thoughts of helplessness. Anger, arguments, lines drawn.

God wants to bring healing to pain, balm to wounds, light to darkness, hope to helplessness and love when there is hate.  You, one person, can help bring God’s loving presence to the issue of abortion through 40 Days for Life, February 26 – April 5.

Be a part of the real solution.  To find out more, go to 40DaysforLife.com or email 40daysforlifelansing@gmail.com
